BE RESOURCEFUL AND HONEST: PPSMB PERM. SEC. TELLS SCHOOL PRINCIPALS


The Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni, today held an emergency meeting with all principals of secondary schools in the state at the board's headquarters in Enugu to brief them on current issues affecting the schools

She told them to be forthright in the discharge of their duties by not allowing teaching and non-teaching staff who absconded from duty to continue to collect salaries.
According to her, they should be resourceful and honest in managing finances as a way of assisting the education - friendly Governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to realize his vision for the state including regular payment of Salaries by ensuring that those who were not working were not collecting salaries illegally.
Dr. Ugwuanyi praised some of the Principals who were doing well in their job and urged them not to join those who were doing evil things. "Those doing evil will have the repercussion just as those doing good will receive their reward if not from man, from God".
The Permanent Secretary also advised the Principals to stay away from politics, especially local politics of their host communities to maintain their integrity and honour.
In a speech, the Director, Finance and Accounts Department, Mr Bona Odenigbo urged the Principals to always comply with instructions given to them, one of which is ensuring that they lodged all monies collected for the government as and when due. He warned them against harboring ghost teachers, saying, "it is a grave offence in the civil service".
The Director, Schools Supervision Department, Dr. Ezekiel Onah advised them to pay special attention to the cleanliness of their school environment as filthy environment was a threat to good health.
The Director, Science and Technology Department, Mrs Edith Eze observed that computers supplied to some of the schools were kept in private places and urged the Principals to put them to full use or return the computers to the board.
A German based Nigerian, Dr. Abraham Nneji who featured at the meeting said that his scholarship programme in Enugu State was meant for smart but indigent students so that they would not die with their dreams.
According to him, the University Scholarship being offered by Dr. Abraham Chukwudi Nneji Foundation in collaboration with CEDInitiatives is also aimed at complementing the efforts of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to improve education in the state and other services.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairman of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPS, in Enugu State, Deacon Robert Okorie thanked the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ugwuanyi mni, for the meeting and all the useful information passed on to the Principals.
He pledged that they would go back to their schools and do the needful.
Over 190 Post Primary School principlals in Enugu State attended the meeting.
