ENUGU STATE GOVT. COMMITTED TO FUNCTIONAL EDUCATION - EDUCATION COMMISSIONER.

The Enugu State Government is committed to the provision of functional education at the basic and secondary school levels that promotes skills acquisition and places the child in a position to take care of him/herself after graduation.

The Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eze stated this today (14/01/22) during a meeting between principals of public secondary schools and chief supervising principals in the six education zones in the state on one hand, the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni, on the other hand at the Board's Headquarters Enugu.
He explained that the essence of the meeting was to invigorate Secondary education in line with the vision of the Governor, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, saying, "The Governor is not interested in a situation where children memorise their notes, recite them during examinations to make good grades only to forget all after few weeks. In today's world, what saves a child is what he/she can do, not what the child can recite".
Professor Eze noted that principals were the heads of internal quality control in their schools and urged them to ensure that teachers applied the right teaching strategies and techniques appropriately for better understanding by the students.
Similarly, The Permanent Secretary, PPSMB Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni, in an earlier remark told the Principals to be in firm control of teachers and other staff under them. "You should be committed to your duties and imbibe the attitude of excellence in all you do", she said.
She thanked God for preserving the lives of the principals from 2021 to 2022 and spoke prophetically that this year would be better than last year.
'You should look at divine weather, not physical or political weather and hope for the better as this year will be better than last year no matter the plans of the devil."
The meeting was well attended by Secondary School Principals and chief supervising principals who were given specific guidelines and instructions on how to go about their duties, heads of Departments and Units of the PPSMB Headquarters.
