The Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni, has commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for creating opportunities for philanthropic individuals and organizations to assist in giving education to less privileged children and human capital development.
She stated this while addressing undergraduate students who sat for and passed an online examination for Dr. Abraham Chukwudi Nneji Foundation University Scholarship programme.
The Perm. Sec. stated that before the administration of Rt. Hon. Dr. Ugwuanyi there were such individuals and organization in Enugu State but that they were not given the opportunity to offer their help.
She disclosed that in honour of the governor and his wife, Her Excellency, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi, many individuals and organizations had come for-ward to partner PPSMB to offer scholarships to many indigent Enugu State students.
She expressed gratitude to Governor Ugwuanyi for placing her in a position to be part of the success story.
Dr. Ugwuanyi mni, maintained that PPSMB was committed to human capital development and announced that plans were on to hold workshop for newly appointed principals and vice principals as well as training for all secondary school teachers in Enugu State to enhance their managerial abilities and teaching skills.
The Perm. Sec. praised Dr. Abraham Nneji founder of Dr. Abraham Chukwudi Nneji Foundation for the scholarship programme and urged students who would benefit from it to be serious minded, fear God, respect their parents, forget worldly things and pleasure so as to be focused to achieve academic excellence. She noted that though the undergraduate were not qualified for the scholarship meant for those yet to gain admission into tertiary institutions, she would encourage some people including Dr. Nneji to assist indigent ones among them in one way or the other.
Dr. Nneji explained that he decided to initiate the scholarship programme in appreciation of God who propelled him through poverty to prosperity as well as to support Rt. Hon. Dr. Ugwuanyi's good governance in Enugu State.
He said though the scholarship was not meant for undergraduates, he would consider some of them based on need and available budget for the current exercise.
A one time commissioner in the Enugu State Civil service commission and now Deputy Chairman, Isi-Uzo local Government, Hon. Ejike Egbogu commended Dr. Nneji for remembering the hardship he passed through as a child and deciding to help those in similar condition now. While a Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor, Mr. John Toochukwu Ogbodo described scholarship as a means of giving back to the society and commended the Perm. Sec. Dr. Ugwuanyi for her magnanimity to people including himself.
But men pledged to give scholarships to some indigent undergraduate students who applied for the Dr. Abraham Chukwudi Nneji scholarship to enable them to realize their dreams.
