‘Do not be afraid to fail anything. Nobody will put you in prison because you failed any subject…. But always strive to make corrections whenever you fail anything so that you will not fail it again.’

 

The above piece of advice and more are contained in the words of *Ven. Barr. Jude Ogah,* Member I of Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB) Enugu as he tours schools in Obollo-Afor Zone.

 

Member I of the Board, accompanied by Chief Basil C. Ezugwu, the Chief Supervising Principal (CSP) of PPSMB Obollo-Afor Zone took off very early in the morning to meet the students and staff of Community Secondary School Orba as the students engaged in the morning functions before the morning assembly. As a chief servant, who leads by example, Ven. Barr. Ogah immediately began to coordinate the morning assembly. He took time to say prayers for the students, staff, and parents of the students. Reacting to the lateness of some students and some staff, he reaffirmed the content of the Bible reading for the day, that one must surely reap what one sows. He encouraged the students to be good and studious.

 

In his words, truancy and laziness will not be entertained by the Board. The CSP re-echoed the words of Member I and told the ‘sleeping teachers’ to wake up; a new dawn has begun in the leadership of PPSMB.

 

In his response, the Principal of the school, Mr Celestine Eze, who was fully dressed in the students’ uniform appreciated the visit of the Board member and the CSP. He prayed that they visit his school again as such will keep them on their toes for quality service delivery.

 

After the assembly, Barr. Ogah and Chief Ezugwu took time to monitor the conduct of the promotion exams in the school. They painstakingly went through the question papers and made very useful corrections. They also insisted that students’ sitting arrangements were well spaced to inculcate the spirit of facing examination without resorting to exam malpractices.

 

Ven. Ogah left Community Secondary School Orba for Girls’ Secondary School Owerre-Eze Orba. At GSS Owerre-Eze Orba, Ven. Ogah was pleased to witness a conducive environment for learning, the presence of Form teachers in their respective classes, ongoing NECO examination, and dormitory facilities in the school. He commended the school management and told the school Principal to pack into the Principal’s quarters to encourage more students to live in the dormitory.

At Igbo-Eze South LGA, Ven. Barr. Ogah visited Boys Secondary School, Ovoko.

 

He took time to talk to the students about the need to put more effort into their studies and shun corrupt practices during examinations. He summarised by saying that the era of examination malpractices has gone, and so, every child must be made to work hard and achieve success.

 

In short, the visit of the Board member to Obollo-Afor Zone has gone a long way in re-awaking the commitment of teachers in the discharge of their duties. Even though the term is coming to an end, it is now crystal clear to every staff of the Board in the Zone that every seriousness must be taken in the service of the Board, whether at the beginning of the term or at the end of the time; time is precious and must never be wasted.

 

The visit of the Board member continues in the Zone. According to him, even remote schools must be seen.
