"WE ARE POISED TO RESTORE THE FADING GLORY OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS". -- Rev. Fr. Dr. Hilary Mgbodile
The Executive Chairman of PPSMB, Enugu, *Rev Fr. Hilary Mgbodile,* reiterated his readiness to restore sanity in all the public secondary schools in Enugu State.
Fr. Mgbodile made the statement during his unscheduled visits to Annunciation Secondary School, Nkwo Nike, and Community Secondary School, Ugwogo Nike, all in the Enugu education zone. In both Schools, the Executive Chairman frowned at the level of moral decadence in our schools; coupled with disgusting infrastructural dilapidations. According to him, "It will be a bold error that a priest should be at the hem of affairs and things will continue to go wrong"; end of quote. The Board went further to inform them that they will do the work according to the civil service rules and the Board's policy. While endorsing the suspension of one of the principals, the teachers were assured of the board's readiness to reward competence and correct incompetence.
Addressing the teachers in their respective schools, Fr. Mgbodile maintained that the days of laxity and truancy are gone; "where teachers absent themselves from school without permission, and get paid at the end of the month". The Board further stressed that it will no longer be business as usual.
In this same vein, the clergyman assured his audience that henceforth, the appointment of Principals will be strictly based on competence and no longer based on recommendations from stakeholders and politicians. According to him, "the days of who knows who is gone. The Board concluded by warning them of the dangers and consequences of mutilating students' scores in their grade books.
The Executive Chairman made the visits with the Directors of Finance and Schools Supervision, with other staff from the headquarters.
